EFryNB offers safe and inclusive spaces in which women and gender-diverse individuals can come together to be seen, be heard, and experience a sense of belonging. We do this by offering My Place Apartments, fostering social inclusion opportunities, community outreach, individual and small group counselling.

My Place Apartments

  • My Place Apartments, a community-based supportive therapeutic housing program, provides 15 furnished apartments for women and gender-diverse people in partnership with Housing Alternatives Inc. My Place applies an intersectional lens to homelessness that recognizes several risk factors and barriers among marginalized women and gender-diverse individuals that contribute to experiences of unstable housing. Mental and physical health, substance use, gender-based violence, and complex family systems are some of those experiences. By using extensive integrated services to address systemic factors, individuals can experience long-term growth, responsible tenancy practices, community building skills and housing longevity. Our approach to a housing program allows residents to engage in personalized and supportive mental health service, substance use supports, family reunification assistance, accessible individual or group support sessions when needed in a timely manner while incorporating a trauma-informed person-centered approach.

One to One & Small Group Support

  • In the spirit of maintaining a human-centered approach and supporting the individual growth and development of residents and individuals in community as much one on one support and counsel as possible is used. Often there are situations or concerns which are shared among people and in such circumstances group sessions can be offered when appropriate. Community partnerships are also fostered to create a variety of available group sessions and styles, for example, art therapy, outdoor wellness activities.

Open Hours at NBWCC

  • Once a week a virtual program is held that is accessed by individuals detained at NBWCC. This program allows for a private short 10-minute virtual face to face discussion where people are invited to unload stress points, request assistance with accessing supports or services, find assistance in release planning or request additional relevant supports such as court support, and pen boxes. Individuals can also reach us at EFryNB staff through a toll-free phone call for individual support or information.

Community

  • To build healthy and inclusive communities, we invite our most vulnerable populations to experience the benefits of community and the value of connection. This is especially true for people who have been subjected to social exclusion and isolation. We offer welcoming spaces that offer a sense of dignity and inclusion. This includes opportunities to participate in outdoor walking and nature experiences, art-making, writing, gardening, Scrabble, and other activities that participants initiate. Often, these activities come to life in our Gathering Space to build a healthy community of acceptance. Our community outreach provides support and services to individuals who are living in the community and feel they benefit from having assistance with living tasks and life goals.

Community Open Hours

  • Community Open Hours is a weekly program dedicated to providing a safe space for women and gender-diverse individuals impacted by criminalization in community. Whether in person, a phone call, or zoom, It offers a way for individuals to engage in discussions to assist them through a variety of challenges, receive support in accessing and navigating resources, troubleshoot issues, or connect with mental health or substance use supports.
